We're partnering with the Annual Meeting of New Champions to explore how we achieve inclusive growth in the Fourth Industrial Revolution
We're off to Dalian, China, to explore and debate the impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution on all forms of life at the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2017.
The 4IR Bio Lab is an exhibition we've curated in collaboration with the World Economic Forum, with support from The Wellcome Trust. The 4IR Bio Lab brings cutting-edge science and pioneering technology together with artists’ inspired conceptions of the future.
From synthetic biology to human enhancement, participants at the Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2017 (AMNC 2017) will experience and discover how the biological dimensions of the Fourth Industrial Revolution could impact global systems for health and medicine, production, culture and society, sustainability, and food and consumption. Exhibits range from life-saving human-eel hybrid organs to genetically engineered food that can diagnose cancer.

Our Executive Director Andrea Bandelli is taking part in the Meeting as a Cultural Leader. At AMNC 2017 Andrea is engaging world leaders on how empowering young people to break creative boundaries in science and the arts can help achieve inclusive growth in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Speaking about the 4IR Bio Lab, Andrea said “The 4IR Bio Lab explores the boundaries of synthetic biology, material sciences and food production. It's a platform for conversations with stakeholders from science, technology, industry, arts and design, and shows how narratives around the Fourth Industrial Revolution become instruments for education and learning.”
This year, in response to an uncertain world and a global shift in power balances, the theme of the Annual Meeting of the New Champions is 'Achieving Inclusive Growth in the Fourth Industrial Revolution'. To us here at Science Gallery International, inclusive growth means empowering each and every member of the next generation to manage the challenges ahead – and that's just what we intend to do.
By 2020, The Fourth Industrial Revolution will have transformed the way we live and work, and jobs that don't exist today will become the norm, with creativity becoming a key skill that young people will need to prosper. 90% of 15-25 year olds live in the Global South, where there are complex socio-economic, cultural, and institutional boundaries to participating in science and the arts.
We want to build a truly global network and will be reaching out to leaders at AMNC 2017 to help us do that.
