About Science Gallery Venice

Inspiring and transforming curious minds through the collision of art and science

Science Gallery Venice will be a bold addition to our city, exploring the collision of art and science, and playing a vital role in shifting our understanding of science, art and innovation.

Part of the acclaimed Global Science Gallery Network, and embedded in the Ca' Foscari University of Venice, the Gallery will be a dynamic new model for engaging 15-25 year olds with science.

Science Gallery is NOT a Science Museum

THERE ARE MANY SCIENCE CENTRES, SCIENCE MUSEUMS AND ART GALLERIES WORLDWIDE WORKING TO INSPIRE AND ENGAGE PEOPLE WITH A PROGRAMME BLENDING SCIENCE, ART AND TECHNOLOGY. BUT SCIENCE GALLERY IS DIFFERENT.

Here eight factors set Science Gallery firmly apart:

1. AN EVER-CHANGING PROGRAMME
We do not have a permanent collection. Instead we will present an ever-changing programme fo exhibitions and events meaning that every visiti s different.

2. AN OPEN CALL PROCESS
We crowdsource our programme from artists, scientists, engineers, and technologists from all over the world.

3. A FOCUS ON YOUNG ADULTS
Our key audience is young people aged 15-25. We want young adults to have the opportunity to engage with new ideas.

4. A POROUS MEMBRANE BETWEEN THE UNIVERSITY AND THE CITY
Based within the San Basilio area, we will facilitate a creative and interdisciplinary dialogue between university researchers, staff and students with artists
and the local community.

5. THE LEONARDO GROUP
Leading the development of seasons, the Leonardo Group will comprise inspirational scientists, artists, engineers, technologists, media and entrepreneurs
to form a brains trust for Science Gallery Venice.

6. ACCESSIBILITY
Entry will be free and Science Gallery Venice will be equally accessible to everyone.

7. A UNIQUE APPROACH
Our approach to innovation and public engagement is a proven model for enriching ideas from art, science, design and engineering

8. A FOCUS ON THE FUTURE
Our programmes have a unique focus on the future, featuring emerging ideas from artists, scientists and everyone in between.

A key place in San Basilio Area for Science Gallery Venice

THE BUILDING WILL REPRESENT A BRIDGE BETWEEN THE NEW AND THE OLD; FULL OF CHARACTER AND HISTORY, IT WILL REPRESENT THE CROSS-DISCIPLINARY EXPLORATION OF ART AND SCIENCE.

These elements makes San Basilio the ideal location for Science Gallery Venice:

  • Combining the past and the future with the highest degree of functionality
  • Providing an inspirational location in front of the Giudecca Channel
  • Enabling interaction with the San Basilio and Santa Marta campuses and the city
Science Gallery is a great opportunity for the whole community. In Venice the past, present and future are constantly intertwined. All places are connected to the past through a wealth of historical references that are not limited to the arts but also include technology and manufactoring. The particular geographical dimensions make Venice a city of encounters, mirroring the surprise effect and spontaneous dialogues that characterize Science Gallery around the world.
