Fondazione Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia seeks to appoint a Managing Director at Science Gallery Venice

Post Summary
Due to open its doors in 2020, Science Gallery Venice will be a dynamic new space for engaging young adults at the interface between science and the arts. The first space of its kind in Italy, Science Gallery Venice will deliver an innovative, everchanging programme of exhibitions and events to engage 15- 25 year olds at the dynamic interface between art and science.

As a member of the Global Science Gallery Network, Science Gallery Venice will build on the proven university-linked model of public engagement pioneered by Science Gallery at Trinity College Dublin, but will adapt this model to a different context – the city of Venice, home to a dynamic creative community, some of Italy’s leading scientific institutions, and to an international contemporary artscene.

The ideal candidate will combine cultural and business/financial qualifications with experience and networks. She/he will have a capability for leadership, innovation and strategic planning and communication.

Essential Characteristics
-Extensive experience in building partnership and fundraising ecosystems to support profit and non-profit projects and start-up ventures, especially in the fields of cultural and social innovation;
-Extensive management experience operating in a complex and sophisticated organisation; demonstrated experience in leading and driving innovative projects or initiatives;
-Familiarity with the Italian academic environment and with contemporary well established networks in the fields of art and culture, education, strategy and digital innovation, both locally (in Venice), nationally and internationally (within and outside the SGI network);
-Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with a diverse community of key stakeholders and members of the scientific, corporate and cultural communities;
-Demonstrated leadership skills; clearly able to articulate a vision and motivate a team to deliver excellence; practices open communication, leads by example;

Capital Project
-Develop, manage and implement the strategic plan to finance and complete the construction and fitout; open Science Gallery Venice within timelines and budget;
-Work closely with the Head of Project Delivery and other key individuals involved in the capital project, taking responsibility for building.

Strategic Planning and Evaluation
-Develop, implement and manage the strategic plan to realize Science Gallery Venice as part of the Global Science Gallery Network, providing the first of its kind, university linked Science Gallery model for public engagement in Italy;
-Strategic planning for the long-term financial development and viability of Science Gallery Venice;
-Develop an evaluation strategy to gauge the effectiveness of all exhibitions and events, in collaboration with Science Gallery International;

Leadership and Management
-Recruit staff and/or consultants to resource the gallery; provide proactive leadership,
manage and develop capability of the Science Gallery professional staff workforce;

Development Management
-Devise and coordinate the fundraising plan for Science Gallery Venice to ensure
that the fundraising goals are being achieved;
-Ensure the robustness of the financial and business analysis of each stage of the
-Devise and manage an integrated development plan for Science Gallery Venice, Ca’
Foscari and Fondazione Ca’ Foscari within the Development Office at Fondazione Ca’

Stakeholder Management
-Strengthen the strategic engagement for the project within the Venetian District for
Research and Innovation;
-Build strong positive ongoing relationships with all Science Gallery stakeholders
including Science Gallery International and the academic partners of the SGI network;
-Cultivate long term positive relationships with key Science Gallery stakeholders
including government agencies, foundations/trusts, industry partners and philanthropic
-Engage with academic and other partners to develop and deliver programmes that
profile and highlight the intersection between art, science, technology and design;

Oversee compliance and quality assurance management consistent with Government requirements, including legislation, statutes, regulations and policies.
