Ca' Foscari University of Venice is seeking a Science, Technology and Society (STS) professor to carry out research for Science Gallery Venice at Ca Foscari University.
The research will be into the history of art, science and technology in Venice and the Veneto region and will be presented as a report on the historical background for Science Gallery Venice due to open in 2020.
Science and technology permeate every aspect of our lives, from the most private decisions about reproduction and medical treatment to the most public choices concerning risk, development, security, and the quality and sustainability of the human environment. Virtually every dilemma that confronts people and governments in contemporary societies demands significant engagement with science and technology.
Science Gallery Venice which is a project of Ca Foscari University of Venice promotes cross-disciplinary integration, civic engagement, and critical thinking. This cross disciplinary approach helps to illuminate issues of professional responsibility and ethics. This approach builds bridges between disciplines that do not ordinarily meet each other in the undergraduate curriculum, such as sociology and science, anthropology and technology, environmental science and political theory, or technology and philosophy.
It offer ways of integrating knowledge in areas that are impossible to grasp through any single discipline; examples include security studies, environmental studies, globalization, the human sciences, and biology and society. This approach to teaching will enable students and researcher to form more robust understandings of the nature of controversy, the causes of scientific and technological change, the relationship of culture and reason, and the limits of rational analytic methods in characterizing complex problems.
